Success story: European Colorectal Cancer rates decline due to improved diagnosis and disease management

Recent research(1) predicts that mortality rates in the European Union for colorectal cancer (CRC) will decline by 6.7% in men and by 7.5% in women from 2012 to 2018. Professor Carlo La Vecchia, who led the research, said in a press release(2) that the predicted fall in CRC deaths "has been one of the major success stories in clinical oncology" and that this decline "is due to improved diagnosis and management of the disease".

In a study published in the leading cancer journal Annals of Oncology in March 19, researchers predict that death rates in the European Union for most cancers will continue to fall this year, compared to 2012.
